How to Choose
Electrolysis
The only FDA-recognized permanent hair removal method. 33 states require in-person licensing hours; 18 states do not require a license at all.
Cosmetology
The broadest license, covering hair, skin, and nails. Required in all 50 states and DC, always with in-person hours.
Waxing
Usually falls under an esthetician or cosmetology license. Some states, like New York and Virginia, offer a dedicated waxing-only license with far fewer hours.
